I remembered the Beamington son, Windhover Winterhawk, as a fancy black show horse from my first year with morgans. When he became available, in his old age, the plan was to breed to Tory with the hopes of a black foal. Plan did not work, so Rocky volunteered. She loves babies!. The bay colt came sized jumbo, and continued to grow in an upper percentile. Hence, his barn name, Shamu.
Baby Shamu did not believe that any other horse would not be delighted to see him - any time, any place. Most dashes ended up with a crash into the tolerant and patient Rocky, who loves babies.
Fellow foal, Katie, did not love him and was not tolerant. He was much bigger, but Katie was quicker. As foals, they were fun to watch. They are now four. Shamu is still a bigger, me-go-anywhere guy.

At 2 Shamu was showing a long reaching trot and a tendency to not pay attention. Very sadly, for "Big Thing" and me, we learned that he has spinal damage which will limit his career greatly. My hopes for him to be my dressage star are dashed and the disappointment persists. However, he still enjoys his rambunctious take on life. |
